Grammy's Closet
For this collection, I studied my Grammy's home and the clothes she had worn in the 1950's. At her home, I found many doilies in her kitchen and on top of tables. She would wear slip dresses under her clothing, that had beautiful lace detailing. I wanted to take these few items and turn them into a modern collection, merging elements from my grammy into something that would be merchandisable now. From this collection I had to make one garment for my draping class. For this project, I used scraps of plaid wool and thrifted doilies. I had to patchwork the wool scraps together to make a full pattern piece. At the top and side hips, I created fraying pieces to add more texture. The doilies were darned in with the thread on top, to highlight my Grammy and myself.
