Fall of Stripes - Senior Collection
I was visiting the Fort Worth Modern and walked into a huge room that was covered with massive canvases made of wood, with bold stripes painted over. These paintings were done by Sean Scully. You could tell he had made the canvases, because some of them were uneven and parts would extrude out. I loved the bold stripes, and how every part of his pieces looked hand built in a DIY way. These paintings led me to the title of my senior collection, "Fall of Stripes", where I would play with big blocks of stripes, varying colors, and textures. I had also run across this European painting at the Kimbell Art Museum, that showed a little boy playing cards, being mischievous. He was wearing a long sleeve shirt that had tied bows all across his sleeve cap. I loved how flashy his dress was, and wanted to play with a bow motif in my collection. While being inspired by all those paintings and building my concepts, I had to include my own design styles to my collection. This includes patchwork, pleats, lots of top stitching, upcycling, layering, and great silhouettes.
